Who's Visiting?
Tracking the number of visitors to a website, how long they stayed, where they came from and what keywords they used to find you in search engines can all be very helpful when refining your site strategy. The number of unique visitors to a site or the number of page views is often referred to as "Hits" and the information can be very illuminating.
At a very simple level, website success is often a study of ratios, such as for every "X" number of visitors to a site, "Y" will interact in some way (fill out a form, email you, take a survey, call on the phone, sign up, refer you, etc) and of those, a certain percentage will "convert" (buy, donate, volunteer, register, etc). To improve on your site's success, you can try and increase website traffic or you can modify your offer – or both. Website metrics give you the ability to analyze how your visitors use your site and you can also test different offers and marketing initiatives.
Analysis of website metrics is always included in our marketing programs and is usually a part of Web Asylum site design projects. For more on metrics terminology, please click over to our online Glossary. |
